Education

Mr. Raines holds both a J.D. from Harvard Law School and a B.A. in Government from Harvard College. As a Rhodes Scholar, he studied Politics at Oxford University in Magdalen College.

Mr. Raines is a Senior Advisor to Grain Management. Since 2023, he has brought over 40 years of experience in financial services, venture investing and public policy.

Mr. Raines is the retired Chairman & CEO of Fannie Mae, the largest non-bank financial services company in the world, and a former General Partner of Lazard Freres & Co. He has served as a director of Boeing, Pfizer, PepsiCo, AOL, Time Warner and TIAA. He currently serves on the boards of four venture-backed companies. He previously served as Director of the US Office of Management and Budget and is a Regent of the Smithsonian Institution.
